About Me :)

Hi! My name is Genevieve DeRoos. I am 19 years old and am the owner of Rustic Roots. I am originally from a small town in West Michigan. In December of 2020 my family and I decided to take on a new adventure and relocated to Seward, Alaska. I enjoy Seward very much. I graduated high school in May of 2022 and was eager to begin an exciting adventure creating my own opportunity in Alaska. I can't wait to see my business flourish into something big. 

Behind the design 

My five designs are just some of the wildlife I have been able to see first hand since moving to Alaska. Resurrection Bay and Mount Alice, both featured together, or separately on the hoodies are just a part of the gorgeous scenery I get to view daily. 

The Bus

In the fall of 2022, my dad and I began the process of renovating an old Denali Transportation bus that my shop is currently being ran out of. This whole process was a two-person job and thankfully I had the help from my dad during this whole renovation. We started with tearing out all the interior and the seats, caulking the windows to ensure that no water would be getting in. Then ripped out the old flooring, ground it down, applied a rust inhibitor, painted sealant across the floor to make it watertight, installed insulation, and then laid new flooring. All this prepared us to install the displays, build shelving, buy furniture, and décor.
